I.T.S UG campus, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad organized a workshop on "IOT, Python, SQL and AI/ML" on 28th July’ 2025 by Dr. Sumedha Sharma from Boston University. I.T.S UG Campus is committed towards the vision of preparing students to be safe, responsible, and innovative digital citizens. This workshop was an endeavour to improve the quality of its continuing academic courses and expose students to global technology trends. The objective of this workshop was to foster an understanding of global technology trends, introduce the core concepts of IoT, AI, and ML, highlight the pivotal role of data in the contemporary world, and provide a foundational understanding of Python and SQL. The speaker of the session was Dr. Sumedha Sharma, a results-driven Data Analyst from Boston University. She is currently pursuing her Master's in Applied Data Analytics from Boston University and holds postgraduate credentials in Data Science and Business Analytics from The University of Texas at Austin and Great Lakes Institute of Management. Dr. Sharma has over 5 years of experience in data research and analytics, including her previous role as a Senior Researcher at Industrial Info Resources. She is technically proficient in Python, R, and SQL, along with various data science libraries and tools. The event commenced with a warm welcome extended to the distinguished speaker. The respectable Chairperson of the BCA Program, Dr. Vidushi Singh, formally started the session. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Sumedha Sharma for accepting the invitation and emphasized the importance of such interactions in bridging the academic-industry gap and enriching the student learning experience. This was followed by an address from the respected Vice Principal-UG Campus, Dr. Nancy Sharma, who warmly welcomed Dr. Sharma on behalf of the institution. She appreciated the relevance of the session's theme and encouraged students to remain proactive and inquisitive throughout the workshop. She highlighted the significance of acquiring interdisciplinary technical knowledge in today’s rapidly evolving digital environment. The session was further graced by the presence of the honourable Director-UG Campus, Dr. Sunil Kumar Pandey, who extended his warm regards to the speaker and applauded her vast experience in the field of data analytics. In his remarks, he motivated students to leverage such opportunities to stay aligned with global technology trends and urged them to explore the limitless possibilities emerging in areas like AI, IoT, and data science. Dr. Sumedha Sharma then commenced her insightful presentation. • She began with an overview of "The Global Tech Landscape", identifying the 4th Industrial Revolution as a nucleus of innovation driven by AI, IoT, Cloud, and Big Data. • Dr. Sharma explained that AI involves machines that learn, IoT connects devices, Cloud enables data access from anywhere, and Big Data is key to understanding the world through massive datasets. She noted that companies like Google, TCS, Infosys, and Tesla are actively hiring in these fields for applications like smart homes and self-driving cars. • The lecture explored IoT as a network of connected devices, covering its components like sensors, connectivity, and data processing. Examples such as smart fridges, fitness trackers, and their application in India's smart cities and agri-tech were discussed. • Transitioning to Artificial Intelligence (AI), it was described as the science of making machines mimic human intelligence, with applications like chatbots and image recognition. This was followed by an interactive "Quick True or False Game", where students enthusiastically participated through chat and raised hands. • Machine Learning (ML) was presented as a subset of AI that learns from data, with types including Supervised, Unsupervised, and Reinforcement learning. The session emphasized that "Data is the New Oil," highlighting its critical role in decision-making for sectors like eCommerce and healthcare. • The final part of the session focused on practical tools. SQL was described as the language for communicating with databases, and Python as a flexible language for data processing using libraries like Pandas, NumPy, and Matplotlib. Dr. Sharma conducted a mini hands-on demo for both SQL and Python. The session was highly engaging and concluded with Dr. Sharma, sharing valuable resources for continuous learning, including W3Schools, DataCamp, Kaggle, and the "Alex The Analyst" YouTube channel. Students actively interacted with the speaker, asked pertinent questions, and gained a clearer understanding of these cutting-edge technologies.
